Mantel Makeover, Seashore Style

The after holiday sweep!
Although I dread putting Christmas decorations away, like a lot of people, I'm glad for the fresh start when the job is done...or at least everything is out of sight.
(Does piling it up outside the storage room count?)
This year I did a complete re-do of our living room fireplace mantel. I did a little shopping around the house and this is the result!
Here's a before Christmas shot..

First I took all Christmas decorations down, and then some, to start with a clean slate...

I knew I wanted to use this painting that was hanging in our bedroom.

And I wanted to use this damigiana from Italy that has a seaglass hue.

I love these candle holders so I knew I wanted to keep them...

And, for the first time since we've been in these quarters, I replaced the silver balls with seashells under this cloche.

I shopped around the house for a few other pieces and I love the result! It reminds of me of a winter beach.
Or maybe just a beach and because it's winter...well...you get it!

I will admit to being a BUYer instead of a DIYer but with our daughter's wedding on the horizon, my new motto is to look at the treasures I already have with a whole new perspective! Shopping around the house is a great way to repurpose items already on hand.
Here are a few other photos of some 'winter decor' that I'm leaving up until warmer weather...courtesy of home shopping!

I've always been obsessed with glass bottles, hence, my collection of damigiane (demijohns) from Italy. Currently,  I'm into scotch bottles, I just love their pretty shapes!

Just settling down for a long winter's nap!

With Gratitude,
Shand
